There has been a lot of debate recently over the question of whether we should consider corporations “people.” Liberal-leaning folk tend to dismiss this claim out of hand – after all, how could multinational entities controlling billions of dollars of capital be looked at in the same light as a single, ordinary person? But why don’t we step back for a moment and just take this claim at face value. We’d like to ask another question: assuming corporations are people – what kind of people are they? From a psychological perspective, if we look at the behavior that corporations typically exhibit, there’s only one answer: corporations exhibit all the major warning signs of antisocial personality disorder: the diagnosis given to people we often call psychopaths, or sociopaths. Though it seems that the age of the ‘good’ big corporation may slowly be coming into being (with Google as a prime example), we’ll still stay firmly suspicious until they prove us otherwise. We beseech you, future MBA holders: use your powers for good, not for evil.
