In late September, 2011, Senatorial candidate spoke eloquently about the necessity of taxes in our country – a sentiment that has been all but spat upon by the political right, whose anti-taxation stance has been the single most defining of the Republican party. In defending the wealthy against tax increases, Republicans have argued that they would be paying more than their fair share. But this misses the point, as the idea that the wealthy among us ‘get rich on their own’ doesn’t hold water, since public institutions paid for by the taxpayers helped facilitate their upward mobility and the logistics of their current operations. Thus goes Warren’s argument. All future MBAs take notice: when you finally hit it big, it’s the little guys in this country that helped paid for you to get there.
